When is it time to get a new guitar?

ive been playing guitar about 6 months now. I bought a used squire strat from my friend(the guitar is 3 years old). I think im getting pretty good. but which guitar is better i want a Ibanez RG350dx or a Ibanez RG5ex1. Are locking trems really that hard to set up?
