Is it possible to ovulate and be on your period at the same time?

i usually had regular periods while on the pill...they always come right on time but i stopped my birth control pills right after my last period and now ( a week and a half later) i'm having bleeding like a period...is it basically the same as a period or is this breakthrough bleeding b/c of me stopping the pill different than a real period?..can i ovulate during the breakthrough bleeding?
